Facebook as we all know is the most visited site in the world and the largest social network on the planet with a total user base of over 2 billion people.
And in order to keep such a large number of data, it required a data centers to keep user information secured.
It’s located In a subarctic environment that allows the data center to have a minimal cooling expenses. Its powered by affordable electricity that’s 100% renewable (12 hydro-electric power plants at nearby rivers).
Works sometimes have to go inside the facility in a temperature as low as -30°C (-22°F)..
The building’s exterior looks futuristic.
The giant fans you see above draw frigid air from outside into the data center to cool the millions of servers. Heat from the servers also help to keep the employees warm.
About 150 employees work in the data center, but the giant halls are usually empty. Only 1 technician is needed for over 25,000 servers at one location, and they have to move around the spaces using scooters due to the distance needed to cover
Repairing a server requires only 2 minutes. Once a server gets old,they’re physically destroyed so that users data remains private.
